JOB TITLE: Senior Accountant


EMPLOYEE STATUS: Salary, Exempt (Administrative)

PURPOSE: Obtain and analyze financial information to prepare reports and statements, and provide informed recommendations. Provide leadership and support to peers within the Finance Department.


  1. Perform routine and periodic audits to ensure that Accounting policies and procedures are being followed.
  2. Prepare and present to the Chief Financial Officer the monthly facility operation report. Develop support documentation as appropriate for HVO board meeting financial presentation.
  3. Review and investigate causes of manufacturing variances. Provide recommendations to management for corrective actions in relation to identified variances and inefficiencies.
  4. Prepare monthly bank reconciliations.
  5. Review and close manufacturing jobs in ERP system.
  6. Maintain pre-paid account information and create monthly G/L entries.
  7. Create and enter month-end journal entries as needed (investments, payroll, reclasses, accruals, etc)
  8. Provide backup support for Accounting Specialist as needed.
  9. Maintain fixed asset information and perform monthly depreciation entries.
  10. Facilitate the development of annual department budgets and HVO organization budgets.
  11. Collaborate with the Operations to ensure that inventories reconcile between Manufacturing & Accounting.
  12. Responsible for inventory valuation, inventory audits, monthly adjustments, and reconciliation of inventory. Annual preparation and reconciliation of inventory for the year-end audit.
  13. Ensure the accuracy of cost information within HVO's manufacturing cost system.
  14. Determine the appropriate costs and margins related to new product quotes and existing product quotes for the company.
  15. Analyze costs relating to the business operations and prepare management reports that reflect profitability and break-even points of all products and production lines
  16. Assist Chief Financial Officer with short and long-term departmental goals, objectives, policies, and operating procedures.
  17. Support Sales and Use Tax reporting.
  18. Participate with project teams and committees as needed and appropriate.
  19. Serve as primary backup and point of contact for the Finance department in the absence of the Chief Financial Officer.
  20. Conduct and present monthly review of departmental and capital budget reports to the Chief Financial Officer.
  21. Prepare monthly investment reconciliation and entries for financial reporting.
  22. Maintain an up-to-date procedural manual and work instructions for essential job duties.
  23. Facilitate the accurate and timely completion of 5500 tax returns.
  24. Must be aware of applicable HVO safety rules and regulations.
  25. Perform other job duties as directed by supervisor.


  1. Five years experience in accounting, preferably in a manufacturing environment.
  2. Knowledge of accounting principles.
  3. Experience in accounting/manufacturing ERP systems.
  4. Experience with Microsoft 365 (Outlook, Word, and Excel).
  5. Must possess a valid driver's license.


  1. BS/BA degree in accounting or related business curriculum from an accredited college or university.
  2. CPA preferred.
